Water Billing

The Township completes quarterly billing for water and wastewater. Find out more about our billing process below.

Please contact us via email or by calling 613-756-2747 x213 if you have any questions about water billing.

Water bills are sent quarterly: January, April, July, and October. Readings are completed remotely to the water meter installed in your home, and no access to your home is required.

Water and wastewater rates are reviewed annually. Visit our Fees & Charges page to find the current rates.

The Township offers numerous ways for residents to pay water and wastewater bills. Payments must be made by the close of business on the due date to avoid penalties. Penalty and interest are fixed at a rate of 1.25% per month. Accounts are payable in Canadian funds only.

Methods of payment of bills and invoices are:

  • In person at the Municipal Office at 85 Bay Street, Barry's Bay during regular business hours. Cash, card, and current-dated cheque accepted.
  • By mailing a current-dated cheque to the Municipal Office.
  • Dropping a current-dated cheque in the drop box outside the Municipal Office.
  • Telephone or online banking, via your financial institution. Search for "Madawaska Valley Water" or "Madawaska Valley Utilities" as the payee.
  • E-pay is available by clicking here and accepts online debit, Visa, and Mastercard. Note that a 2.5% fee is applied to the payment.

By default, paper bills are sent via Canada Post to your address on file. To sign up for e-billing, which will send water and wastewater bills directly to your inbox, click here.

Bills are always made out to the property owner, and only the property owner can request information on billing. To allow others to tenants to receive bills and inquire about the account, complete a request form.

The Township recognizes the financial hardship an abnormally high water and wastewater bill can create for residents and offers an option for adjustment once every ten years. This option is not available for unoccupied or vacant dwellings.

The bill must meet specific requirements, including:

  • The water usage must be 100% above quarterly usage for the same billing period from the previous year.
  • A written application for the water leak adjustment must be received by the Township within 90 days of the due date for the billing.
  • Adjustments can occur only after all leaks have been repaired and verified by Township staff.
