The Township looks after the water mains and service lines from the road to the property line only unless there is a registered easement crossing private property. You are responsible for the water line between your house and the property line. If you suspect a water leak at your home, please contact a plumber. Staff does not perform work on private property.

The Ontario Clean Water Agency performs spring and fall fire hydrant flushing within the Town of Barry’s Bay.

This maintenance program is designed to remove sediment accumulation within the water mains in order to maintain good water quality in the distribution system. The program is also used to exercise distribution infrastructure such as water main valves and hydrants.

This maintenance may result in temporary inconveniences including discoloured water and lower than normal water pressure. The low pressures are due to turning on and off hydrants and is temporary. OCWA recommends avoiding water use when crews are flushing in your area. It is also recommended that users run a cold water tap for a few minutes to clear any discoloured water from your plumbing should you experience low pressure or discolouration.

It should be noted that discoloured water and lower than normal pressure can occur at the site of flushing or several blocks away due to changes in flow and direction of water flow. It is impossible to predict which locations or the extent of the customers which may be affected.

Visit our dedicated water billing page and learn more about how and when we complete billing, as well as current rate information.

The Ontario Clean Water Agency publishes annual water and wastewater reports on drinking water systems and facilities in Barry's Bay. View current and past reports at our dedicated reporting page.

Many residents rely on a private well for drinking water. The Renfrew County and District Health Unit recommends testing your water at least three times a year and taking care to avoid contamination.

Visit their website to learn how to care for your well and how to test your water.
