Roads & Operations

The Township of Madawaska Valley operations team maintains and provides year-round maintenance to over 250km of roadways, as well as water and wastewater infrastructure, street lighting, and more.

Roadways within the Township fall within the jurisdiction of the municipality, the County of Renfrew, and the Province of Ontario. To find out who is responsible for the maintenance and repair of your road, consult this map or contact us.

The Operations team maintains over 250km of roadways throughout the Township from two municipal garages - Yard 1 on Arena Road in Barry's Bay, and Yard 2 on Combermere Road/Highway 62 in Combermere. Roadways are plowed, sanded, salted, graded, and swept seasonally.

Sidewalks and culverts are also subject to regular repair and maintenance by municipal staff.

The Operations team maintains and installs streetlights in our population centres. Contact us to report an issue with a streetlight.

In 2015, the Township launched a Private Roads Grant Policy to assist homeowners with summer maintenance costs on private roads. Bylaw 2015-80 sets out the policy and criteria the Township has for authorizing a summer maintenance program for private roads, right-of-ways, and unassumed roads.

The application deadline is September 30 for the upcoming year. Invoices and receipts must be submitted no later than September 30 the year the costs are incurred.

Visit the bylaw linked above to access the form. Send applications by email or visit the Municipal Office during business hours to receive a paper form.

The Township is responsible for permits and signage within the road allowance of municipally owned roadways, including entrance permits for new builds or driveways.

When beaver dams on private property break, they can result in significant damage, including to yours and neighbouring properties. It is your responsibility to ensure beavers on your property are managed and their activities will not result in damage to neighbouring private and public land. The Township retains licensed trappers for beavers impacting Township property only.

Beavers can be humanely trapped by an agent should they be damaging or at risk of damaging your property. Visit the Ontario Fur Managers Federation to find licensed trappers near you.
