Comprehensive Zoning By-Law Update

The Township of Madawaska Valley is undertaking a review of its Comprehensive Zoning By-law in 2025 and 2026.

The Zoning By-law update will implement the policies of the new County of Renfrew Official Plan, address recent changes to the provincial legislation, reflect best practices, and address housekeeping matters. The new Zoning By-law and Zoning Schedules will apply to all lands throughout the Township of Madawaska Valley.

Scheduled Meetings

Two Public Open Houses in the Township of Madawaska Valley will be held for members of the public, one in Barry’s Bay and one in Combermere.

The Open Houses are being held to allow for members of the public to ask questions in an informal, drop in setting related to the draft Zoning By-law Update. If you are unable to attend the Open Houses and would like to provide feedback on the Draft Zoning By-law Amendment, the Township will be accepting comments until March 2, 2026. Please submit your comments by mail (P.O. Box 1000, 85 Bay Street, Barry’s Bay, Ontario, K0J 1B0) or by e-mail to jbelaire@madawaskavalley.ca.

Barry’s Bay Public Open House Information (Hybrid):

This Public Meeting is an opportunity for members of the public to learn more about the proposed changes to the zoning by-law, ask questions, and/or make statements either in favour of, or in opposition to, the proposed changes. If you have questions, we encourage you to contact the Township’s Planning Department directly in advance of the meeting as they may be able to answer your questions.

How to Participate in the Statutory Public Meeting

  • Attend the meeting in person at the Township of Madawaska Valley Council Chambers. Any members of the public who wish to speak will be given the opportunity to do so.
  • Submit written comments to the Township by mail (P.O. Box 1000, 85 Bay Street, Barry’s Bay, Ontario, K0J 1B0) or by e-mail. Comments will form part of the public record and will be circulated to Council and staff. Please be aware that if you are submitting correspondence to the Township of Madawaska Valley regarding this application, your name, contact information, and communications may become part of the public record that will be available to the general public, pursuant to the Planning Act and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection and Privacy Act.
