The Madawaska Valley Fire Department is actively recruiting new Volunteer Firefighters for both the North Hall (Barry’s Bay) and South Hall (Combermere).

Volunteer Firefighters engage in fire suppression, prevention, and education activities. Candidates must be able to obtain a clean driver’s abstract and vulnerable sector check, as well as become trained to the 1002 National Fire Protection Agency Standard Level One. All training is paid for by the Township of Madawaska Valley, and Volunteer Firefighters are paid annually based on the number of training sessions and calls they respond to.

The Township of Madawaska Valley has a position of Full Time Labourer available within their Public Works Department under the direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor.

This position requires a self-motivated individual to provide a variety of construction, maintenance, repair and emergency response services related to municipal infrastructure with a focus on public safety and convenience.

The responsibilities of the Labourer may include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting general maintenance functions for roads, waste sites, parks and recreation areas
  • Construction projects and paving preparation
  • Repairing and installing signs
  • Trim and remove trees and brush adjacent to roadways
  • Maintaining good condition of roads and sidewalks during the winter months by snow plowing, salting and sanding
  • Identifying maintenance problems and most cost-effective/practical method to correct
  • Provide curbside environmental services and waste management duties as required

The ideal candidate will have previous operations experience and must possess a valid Class G license. A clean driver’s abstract is required for this position. OSSD or equivalent is required. Job-related courses in the operations/maintenance and construction of roads is an asset. Mechanically inclined and able to repair small equipment breaks.

Rate of Pay: $19.41 - $22.84 per hour based on the 2026 compensation grid.
Group benefits (85% ER/15% EE cost share), OMERS pension.
