MV Swim Program

The Township is a facilitator of the Lifesaving Society's Swim for Life program, and runs swimming lessons seasonally in Combermere and Barry's Bay. Join us in July and August for quality swim lessons on the shoes of the Madawaska River and Kamaniskeg Lake!

Swim Instructor Sponsorship Program

We're looking for our future swim instructors! If you or someone you know is between the ages of 15-22, completed their Bronze Cross, and is a resident of MV, we want to send you to the Lifesaving Instructor course!

In this program, the Township will sponsor two MV residents to complete this course and allow them to work as Swim Instructors in MV and beyond! Participants will commit to working seasonally in MV for two seasons.

Applicants must:

  • Be between 15-20 years of age
  • Be permanent residents of Madawaska Valley
  • Have completed their Bronze Cross certification
  • Be available to attend 100% of the course time for the Swim For Life and Lifesaving Instructor course in Pembroke (dates/times below)
  • Be able to commit to two summer seasons working for the Township of Madawaska Valley as swim instructor
  • Submit a cover letter detailing why they are interested in working as a swim instructor

There is no requirement for financial need to apply for this program. The course will take place in Pembroke on the following dates and times. Successful applicants must arrange their own transportation and attend every session.

  • May 21: 5-9pm
  • May 23-24: 9am-5:30pm
  • May 28: 5-9pm
  • May 30-31: 9am-5:30pm

Those who complete the course but only work for the Township of Madawaska Valley for one season will be required to pay back 50% of course costs. Those who work for no seasons will be required to pay back 100% of costs. Those who work for two seasons will not be required to pay back the costs. The estimated cost of the course is $518.67.
