Call For Feedback: Schedule of Fees 2026

At November 4's Committee of Council Meeting, the Treasurer presented a proposal to increase fees for service in the Township of Madawaska Valley to take effect on January 1 2026, unless otherwise stated in the fee schedule. Further, it was proposed that Building and Planning Services increase by 2% annually in an effort to move towards cost recovery in this department.

The Township passes a Schedule of Fees by-law annually that establishes fees for the year ahead. The Municipal Act, Section 391. (1) allows a municipality to pass by-laws imposing fees or charges, the Planning Act Section 69 allows a municipality to pass a by-law to prescribe fees for processing of planning applications, and the Building Code Act allows a municipality to pass a by-law to prescribe fees for processing and issuing permits. 

Residents of the municipality are asked to submit written comments to the Treasurer by December 2 2025, after which Council will have the final review of the proposed fee structure.
