Wilno Recreation Committee Receive the 2025 Mayor's Appreciation Award

The Wilno Recreation Committee are the recipients of the Mayor’s Appreciation Award for 2025. The award is given annually to express the mayor’s appreciation for a volunteer organization or group operating in Madawaska Valley.

The Wilno Recreation Committee are the stewards of the Wilno Rink, and in 2025 reached their years-long fundraising goal of $30,000 to rebuild the rink boards at the popular spot on Shalla Street in Wilno. The project, like the committee itself, was entirely volunteer run. Donations came in from fundraising events run by the Committee, as well as local organizations and individuals. The Township was pleased to provide a donation of $10,000 towards their goal this year. The funds were used to purchase supplies and the old boards were torn down and rebuilt entirely by volunteers, often in the form of “worker bee” days advertised on social media. Because of their efforts, the rink is now ready to go for this coming winter.

For their tireless volunteerism, vocal advocacy of this recreational asset, and countless hours dedicated to the rehabilitation and upkeep of the Wilno Rink, Mayor Shulist was pleased to select the Wilno Recreation Committee for receipt of this award.

Mayor Shulist will present the award to Wilno Recreation Committee President Constance Van Hoof at the November 18 Regular Council Meeting.
