Township of Madawaska Valley receives Trillium Capital Grant

The Township of Madawaska Valley is thrilled to announce they are the successful recipients of a Trillium Capital Grant for 2025-26. This grant will see the total rehabilitation of the Combermere Community Centre’s outdoor rink, including a new ice pad, boards, and multisport lines painted on the surface for use year-round.

The Combermere Community Centre and Outdoor Rink has a longstanding history as the hub of activity during winter months for Combermere and surrounding area. In the winter months, the outdoor rink is home to community broomball leagues, pick up hockey, and open skating. The rink is in dire need of investment to continue to effectively serve our community: the wooden boards are rotting or breaking, the roofs of the player benches were damaged during the 2006 tornado and never replaced, and the slab is cracked and dips in low spots, making it unsafe to play sports when the ice is not in.

The new ice pad will eliminate dips and puddle spots, allowing for multi-use during warmer months for basketball and pickleball on the newly painted surface. New boards will replace the existing, rotting wooden ones. The rink has not seen significant investment since it was initially built: this funding will allow the sole recreational facility in Combermere to be used throughout the year as a multi-sport court and provide a safe environment for skaters for years to come as an outdoor rink.
