Theresa Prince is MV's Senior of the Year

The Township is pleased to announce that Theresa Prince of Barry’s Bay is the Township’s chosen recipient of the Ontario Senior Award for 2026. The award is given annually by the municipality to recognize an outstanding senior who, after age 65, enriches the social, cultural or civic life of their community.

You’ll be hard pressed to find something that Theresa isn’t involved in. A retired teacher, Theresa has spent her retirement actively bettering her community through education, volunteerism, and a deep interest in the history of our region. A founding member of the Barry’s Bay Heritage Society, Theresa was instrumental in the research that resulted in the historical plaques you see throughout Barry’s Bay. Theresa continues to lend her wealth of knowledge and expertise in regional history through her role at the Stationkeepers MV, where she has produed numerous vignettes or videos that play at the Station and inform visitors about different aspects of our community history.

History and genealogy are only one of Theresa’s many contributions to our community – she remains actively involved in the numerous groups through her church, the Wilno Heritage Society, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the Opeongo Seniors Centre. In recognition of her relentless volunteerism in the community and contributions to our understandings of our region’s history and genealogy, we’re proud to recognize Teresa as the 2026 Senior of the Year.
