Swatting Incident in Barry's Bay

The following is a press release from Ontario Provincial Police, Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment February 26 2026:

UOV OPP is investigating a swatting incident.

On Wednesday, February 25th, officers responded to a report of threats and an indication that someone had been shot in Barry's Bay. Multiple resources were deployed to the area. An investigation determined that everyone was safe and there was no risk to public safety.

Swatting is the act of deliberately making a false or misleading emergency report with the intent of provoking an urgent, high-risk response to a specific location.

Officers respond based on the information available, and significant resources are deployed to ensure public safety until a situation is confirmed to be safe.

False or misleading emergency calls divert critical resources which might be required for real emergencies where lives are at risk.  Placing a false emergency call is also a serious criminal offence. Such incident will be fully investigated.

The safety and security of our communities is always the OPP's top priority.
