Statement on the Passing of Former Mayor John Hildebrandt

The Council and staff of the Township of Madawaska Valley are saddened to hear of the death of John Hildebrandt, who served as Mayor of Madawaska Valley from 2004 to 2010 and passed away this morning, Saturday September 13. Mr. Hildebrandt, known to most who knew him as Johnny, was instrumental in the creation of the region’s physician recruitment program and Zurakowski Park, where he served as President. Even after his retirement from politics, he remained a vocal advocate for our area and a regular at community events.

“On behalf of the Township of Madawaska Valley council, I want to express my deepest condolences to Beth and her family at the loss of their beloved husband and father. May God grant you comfort and peace. Mayor Hildebrandt was a pillar of our community and will be missed.” - Mayor David Shulist

In honour of John, flags around the Township have been lowered to half mast. Our thoughts are with his wife Beth and family during this time.
