NOTICE: Active Brush Fire August 25

Monday August 25 @ 2pm: Be advised that the Madawaska Valley Fire Department is responding to an active brush fire off Wilno Road North. Flames are a meter in height and the fire is not currently in control. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has been alerted and is responding accordingly. Avoid the area.

UPDATE 3PM: The MNRF is on the ground and have taken over the scene in the remote area near Cranberry Creek Road. Expect to see helicopter activity in the vicinity.

UPDATE 11AM Tuesday August 26: The MNRF has advised Fire Chief Quade that the fire is no longer spreading, things are going well and is getting close to being under control. There is no risk to structures or the public at this time.

UPDATE 4 PM: The MNRF has confirmed to Chief Quade that the fire is under control and contained with no active flames. They are now working to extinguish hot spots and will be on the ground over the course of the next few days to monitor the situation. The confirmed cause of fire is lightning strike.

UPDATE 12PM Thuesday August 28: Fire Chief Quade has received word from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry that the Wilno forest fire is officially out as of 10:30am today. The Township is grateful for the efforts of the MNRF in responding quickly and effectively to control and put out this fire.
