Combermere Recreation Committee Wins Mayor's Appreciation Award

The Combermere Recreation Committee are the recipients of the Mayor’s Appreciation Award for 2026. This award is given annually to express the mayor’s appreciation for a volunteer organization or group operating in Madawaska Valley.

The Combermere Recreation Committee, a self-funded and volunteer run Committee of Council, are dedicated to providing community events and fundraising for capital projects. Over the past few years, the Committee has donated nearly $10,000 towards equipment in Combermere’s recreational facilities, and in 2026 the Committee announced a $25,000 donation towards the Combermere Outdoor Rink rehabilitation project.

These funds were raised through fundraising initiatives over the course of the past few years. “It is a real joy to select this year’s Mayor’s Appreciation Award. It has been twelve years since I had the privilege of selecting a volunteer group who has made a huge contribution to our community,” says Mayor David Shulist. “Over the last several years the Combermere Recreation Committee has not only organized and provided the community with wonderful events such as CO Blitz, family skating parties, community dinners like the Hunters Supper, Children’s Christmas Parties, dances and of course the unique Ladies Yuletide Tea, they have been very successful in their fundraising efforts.”

The funding from the Committee joins funds from the Ontario Trillium Foundation and municipal reserves. The Committee will be joining township staff and members of Council, as well as provincial representatives, at a ribbon cutting for the Combermere Outdoor Rink on Saturday September 26.
