MV Township Sends Delegation to Rural Ontario Municipal Association Conference

The Township of Madawaska Valley is pleased to be sending members of staff and Council to the annual Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference. The Township is eager to ensure issues that matter to residents of Madawaska Valley have a voice at a provincial level.

Mayor Willmer, Councilors Blank and Maika, and CAO Sue Klatt will be representing the municipality at the conference. The delegation will be meeting with several provincial Cabinet Ministers, as well as representatives from the Ontario Clean Water Agency and our insurance provider. Numerous information sessions will be attended by Council and staff, including:
– Access to services in Rural Ontario and Safer Communities (gender based violence)
– Exploring Solutions to Increasing Housing in the Rural Context
– Risk Management and Reducing Liability
– Experiences/Solutions for Rural and Remote Homelessness

Not only will representation from MV meet with provincial officials, but they will also have the opportunity for knowledge and resource sharing with fellow rural municipalities. “I find this conference very rewarding in that it provides many opportunities to share ideas with so many mayors of similar sized communities,” says Mayor Willmer.

Taking place in Toronto and running from January 21-23, the conference provides rural municipal leaders the opportunity to address policy issues, funding concerns and to meet directly with Provincial Ministers on local issues.
