Mayor’s Appreciation Award Presented to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 406

At November 1’s Council in Committee meeting, Mayor Kim Love presented Barry’s Bay Royal Canadian Legion Branch 406 with the Mayor’s Appreciation Award for 2022. President Heather Poliquin, Veteran’s Service Officer Paul Mitton, Membership Chair Lorraine Coulter and Seniors Chair John Stecko were on hand to accept the award on behalf of the organization for their work in the community. Mayor Love thanked the Legion for their work in the Township, which includes contributions such as the annual poppy campaign, involvement in community events, and allowing their space to be used regularly throughout the pandemic for vaccination clinics. The reward is timely, as the Legion is in the midst of their annual Veteran Banner Program. Regarding the program, Mayor Love stated:

As you pass through the village and hamlets in our community at this time of year you can’t help but notice the beautiful remembrance banners for local veterans. The Legion’s Veteran Banner Program successfully brings history and remembrance to life by celebrating the service and sacrifice of local veterans and their families. The banners remind us of those who embraced a greater duty to serve our country and protect our freedoms.
